Have just downloaded the firmware for my 871m, and I can’t believe how quick the EPG is now! Plus it seems to have sorted out a problem with the time, which was stuck on the time I switched on the machine, or when I changed channel. Fingers crossed it will record something tonight!!

I have done the above and machine is fine although all recordings are ‘locked’ at LP mode and cannot be changed! Any ideas?

Hi Dan,

I have carried out the firmware update as suggested and will test it tonight. However I do have a couple of other problems with the sh 875m that you might be able to shed light on.
1. the dvd door opens and then just shuts without giving any opportunity to put a disk in unless you catch it and stop it.
2. I have never been able to record anything onto dvd or cd despite following the enormous instruction manual
3. series link has never worked i.e., when you want to record the same programme over a number of weeks

Not sure if this was the machine for me but I got stuck with it.

I have had my DVD-SH871M for 18 months & find it awful.
Loads of problems at first with the “freezing” issue but after firmware upgrade that problem was sorted.
Find just recently though that I can’t set off a “series record”. Also can’t set the PDC on it.
Do you start a series record from the dvd guide (like it suggests on the menu) or am I doing it completely wrong. Regards Chris

So newest firmware actually should be sh875m_20091114_00.ruf – downloadable directly from samsung homepage (I used samsung.com.uk) Even if at download page the old firmware number is written the download link is giving you the new firmware.

It seems that EPG is improved, but still there are some bugs left. I still recognize some system crashes, especially if I switch to channels with low signal or when waiting for the EPG.
Also I dislike that channels cannot be sorted as I want to but can only be somehow handled in favourite lists. Even my first TV with remote switch could do that!

Does anybody knows something about an alternative firmware?
I would like to try and give report to that.

So I just tested the “new” firmware and it has improved EPG which was still slow after last update and timeshift, which is now working just great even with bad digital tv signal. Seems samsung invested some time in that update even I didn’t thought they would

@Dan Really! The Download is available at samsung download center, even if the description says it is the old one the download is named with new version. Just check it, I’m just testing the new update with my 875M – let’s hope there is some improvement again
